As a registered Adoption Support Agency, we are able to access information related to an adopted adult’s adoption. This includes records held by the General Register Office, adoption agencies, and the courts—allowing us to provide accurate, informed, and sensitive support throughout the search and reunion process.
We offer a trace service to help birth relatives search for adopted people using their adopted name. It’s important to understand that the law clearly states that identifiable information about an adopted person cannot be shared without their explicit consent. To ensure this is respected, we act as intermediaries—approaching the adopted person on your behalf in a sensitive and respectful manner. If the adopted adult is open to contact, we then support both parties in building a relationship at a pace that feels right for everyone involved.

Stages
We support people in three stages:
Stage 1 – Initial Consultation and Accessing information about adoption
- Initial consultation
- ID Check
- Locating or reading adoption records
- Checking the view of adoption agency holding the records regarding contact
- Accessing information such as adopted names or information regarding the adoption to enable us to proceed to searching.
Stage 2 – Search Service
- We start the search for your relatives
- You would not be charged until an address for the adopted adult has been located
Stage 3 – Intermediary Service
- Approach the person you're looking for
- Support with establishing contact
- Exchange of letters and support around reunions

We provide adopted adults with access to adoption file, search for birth family and intermediary service to contact birth relatives. If adopted adult and the birth relative want to proceed with contact, we will support you to exchange letters through us until you both feel that you want to proceed with direct contact or a reunion. We can support you throughout the process from accessing adoption records through to developing a relationship with your birth relative.
As we are a registered adoption support agency, we can access information about an adopted adult’s adoption therefore we can search and approach an adopted adult.
We will check whether your relative has stated their views about contact. Using an intermediary service usually results in more positive results. Some birth relatives may not have told people that they previously had a child that was placed for adoption therefore it is important to use an intermediary to respectfully approach birth relatives.
