Finding a Brother After Almost 40 Years

For almost 40 years, three sisters knew they had a brother who had been adopted as a newborn.

They had spent years searching for information and trying to piece together their family history, but despite their efforts, they had been unable to find him. They had reached the point where they wondered whether they ever would.

They contacted Adoption Finder Intermediary Service for support.

Within five months, we were able to trace their brother and carefully begin the intermediary process, allowing him the opportunity to decide whether he wished to have contact with his birth family.

Thankfully, he was open to hearing from his sisters.

Letters were exchanged, photographs were shared and, eventually, they were able to speak on the telephone and hear their brother’s voice for the first time.

The siblings later met in person and have continued to build their relationship. They now speak regularly and have arranged further visits, giving them the opportunity to get to know one another after so many years apart.

One of the sisters later wrote:

“I would like to say a massive thank you for all your support in finding my brother. We were totally unaware we had a brother until my nephew did a family tree. From the moment we knew, I couldn’t stop searching for almost two years.

Within five short months, you traced our brother. Hearing his voice was magical… We now have a special bond thanks to you.”

For this family, tracing their brother was only the beginning. After almost four decades of wondering, they finally had the opportunity to know one another and begin creating memories together.

If you are hoping to trace an adopted relative, Adoption Finder Intermediary Service can support you through the search, intermediary process and those important first steps towards contact.
