We understand that adopted adults will often want to know more about their identity and circumstances around their adoption.
We can therefore support adopted adults to access their adoption file for them to have a greater understanding of the circumstances surrounding their adoption and information about their Birth family.
We support adopted adults with tracing their birth family members. The aim of the search is to provide you with further information about your birth family and to obtain an address to be able to make contact with your birth family.
We provide an intermediary service therefore we senstivively approach your birth relatives on your behalf. This usually leads to more positive outcomes for both the adopted adult and birth relative. We recognise how difficult it can be for an adopted adult to wait for a response from the birth relative therefore we feel it is important for adopted adults to be adequately supported. Also, we recognise how difficult it can be for birth parents to receive a letter about a child that they placed for adoption therefore it is important that we are able to provide a sensitive and confidential approach.

We support people in three stages but depending on your circumstances we may be able to support you at some of the stages:
Stages
Stage 1 – Initial Consultation and obtaining further information
- Initial consultation
- ID Check
- Accessing information such as someone’s birth name
- Locating or reading adoption records
- Checking the view of adoption agency holding the records regarding contact
- Sharing the content of the adoption records with the adopted person.
Stage 2 – Search Service
- We start the search for your relatives (Price includes up to two certificates from the General Registry Office) You would not be charged until an address for your relative has been located.
Stage 3 – Intermediary Service
- Approach the person you're looking for
- Support with establishing contact
- Support all parties involved for however long.
We also offer a Premium Service Package
Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3 are included in this package
The benefits of the premium service package are:
- We will prioritise supporting you over other work by undertaking initial consultation and search as soon as possible.
- We will collect files from local authorities, courts or any other adoption agencies as soon as possible instead of waiting for the agency to send information to us as this can often delay the process.
- We will contact family members as soon as possible.
We will not invoice you until we are confident that we can support you with your request.
